Early in 2017 we heard of an upcoming destination. We’re talking about the Romanian city Timișoara, which is known as Little Vienna. We went there in May and this is why we wouldn’t recommend this city for a city trip.
To be honest: we believe the title “Little Vienna” is very misleading. We have to admit that Timișoara is little, but Little Vienna? We don’t think so. This is kind of an insult to the beautiful city of Vienna.
We love a good day of sightseeing in a new city. However, your sightseeing adventure in Timișoara won’t take up a full day. There are two squares and one street with colorful umbrellas and that’s pretty much all you’re gonna find. However, we have to admit: both squares are worth a visit.
The houses of the residents of Timișoara are old and mostly abandoned. We love a hike in a ghost town, but Timișoara feels like a never-ending three-day urban exploring adventure. However, some of the abandoned places are perfect for interesting photos, like this photo of an abandoned pool.
Cheapest city ever
In case your sightseeing adventure wasn’t as adventurous as you hoped, you should buy yourself a drink. Or two. We have never been to a place where you can get your alcohol almost for free. And did you know that the flights to Timișoara are cheap as well? You can buy a one-way ticket (Amsterdam – Timișoara) starting at 57 euros.
In case you’re looking for a place to relax and get that beer: visit Piata Unirii. We loved the vibe there. Craving for coffee? You can get one at Les Bourgeois while looking over the Piata Unirii square.
Have you ever been to a place that didn’t fit your expectations? Please let us know your experiences!
